Program Highlights

In the setting of a community hospital, the Wichita Falls Family Practice Residency Program educates resident physicians to embrace the philosophy and the principles of family medicine.  By teaching the proper utilization of health care resources in a variety of settings, the program prepares these physicians to improve the delivery of medical care.  This training will prepare these physicians for certification by the American Board of Family Practice and will meet the requirements of the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education.

Through the practice of family medicine, the Wichita Falls Family Practice Residency Program provides comprehensive, cost-effective and empathetic health care to people in the Wichita Falls and surrounding areas, including those who are indigent.  Through clinical research the program enlarges the fund of knowledge in family medicine, and teaches the resident physicians to review that knowledge critically.

The faculty and staff of the Wichita Falls Family Practice Residency Program have a commitment to pursue these endeavors, to support the personal growth of the resident physicians, and to ensure training, which reflects the evolving character of family medicine.  This commitment is possible only with the educational, philosophical and financial support of the Foundation, its member organizations, and local physicians.

The residency is innovative, resourceful and willing to change in order to improve the educational experience of the residents.  It offers a balanced approach to family medicine:  the psychosocial aspects of illness are considered with the biomedical; health promotion and prevention are integrated into traditional diagnostic and therapeutic medicine so that the spiritual, physical, emotional, and intellectual aspects of patient care are included in our approach.
